Current city: Houston
Course of study: Hospitality and Restaurant Management
- Akash, tell us your story!
My father used to own a restaurant, I’ve helped him since I was 15 in both cooking and front of house management. Later, I decided to attend Culinary School and chose CIL. Soon after, I realized I was made for the Hospitality and Restaurant Management program and enrolled. Now I am a Recruiting Manager at Focuz Mindz Inc. and I work in a food truck called The Waffle Bus.
- How would you describe the impact of your courses at CIL on your daily life?
As a Human Resources manager, I learned at CIL how to manage staff. That helps me today, even if it has nothing to do with the Hospitality industry. Finance, Marketing and Human Resources classes at CIL helped me come up with my project.
- So, what project do you have in mind?
I plan to open my own food truck in one year in Houston but I must first set up menu and pricing…
- Any memorable moments as a student?
I have very fond memories of our New Orleans student trip. We visited Old New Orleans Run Distillery, met chefs and restaurant owners. At Monteleone Hotel, we met Mr Gary Schwartz, the food and beverage Director. Definitely the best meeting I had! A real focus on management, human resources, budget, team work, relations front and back office… these were only few of the best memories from the trip.
- Any words of wisdom to students?
Don’t give up, take advantage of all the people you meet, the professors and the counseling.
