Stefan Bowers is one of our alumni and we are very proud of his success! With the grand opening of his restaurant “Battalion” being tomorrow, we want to highlight our Alumni and let you in his culinary journey.
After a 5 year career as a rescue swimmer in the US navy, Stefan lived in San Diego with two women from Positano, Italy where he learned invaluable lessons which gave a direction to the of his career. In 2003, Stefan moved to Houston and studied Culinary Arts within the Institute Lenôtre.
“Bowers believes in simple food ‘that just needs to taste good. If it doesn’t there’s not much for it to hide behind.’”
With Andrew Goodman, they decided to open “Battalion” in an iconic place: Fire Station No. 7!
Bowers met Andrew Goodman in 2011 and they decided then to open “Feast” in the heart of the King William District which has been a franc success! Their organization is simple: Goodman is taking care of the front of the house and Bowers takes care of the back! Encouraged by their success, they later opened another restaurant called “Rebelle” which received excellent revues including a “Best New Restaurant” award by Texas Monthly.
The partners describe themselves as “both strong-minded people who accommodate each other and have a distinct sense of what they like.”
“We have differences but we have the same goal, which is to create a generous, friendly, and delicious experience,” Bowers said. “Andrew covers the basis of making a cutting-edge, fun atmosphere, so I don’t have to worry about that. Some chefs try to do the front and back [of the house] thing. That’s very complicated and usually ends up in failure.” (The Rivard Report, February 26 2017 “Battalion Turns up the Heat at Historic Fire Station”)
The restaurant “Battalion” will offer an ambitious 35 item menu served in a modern atmosphere and a unique 5,200 sq. ft. building able to accommodate around 140 guests!
Tomorrow will be the grand opening of the restaurant in the iconic fire station! So exciting!
We are proud of our alumni’s achievements and we wish the best to Stefan for this new chapter of his life!
